Who needs to step up for the Bruins in Brad Marchand’s absence
Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been quite a challenging second-round series for the Boston Bruins. After defeating the Florida Panthers 5-1 in Game 1, it’s been nothing but success for the Sunshine State since then, with the Panthers winning three straight games by a combined score of 15-5.

With no Brad Marchand in Game 4, and the team announcing he won’t dress for Game 5 on Tuesday night, the Bruins are now scrambling to find ways to stay alive in this series. Who in their top-six forward group needs to step up?

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk are joined by Ty Anderson of 98.6 The Sports Hub to discuss Boston’s offensive struggles and if the likes of Pavel Zacha or Charlie Coyle can step up in Marchand’s absence.

Tyler Yaremchuk: We got the news today that Brad Marchand will not play again for the Bruins. I guess thiis is a two-parter: How apparent was his absence in Game 4, and who needs to step up Tuesday night as they go into Game 5 down 3-1?

Ty Anderson: Yeah it was definitely noticeable, because you’re talking about both the emotional leader and their point leader through the playoffs. It’s hard for this team to generate offense already, but when you remove someone as important as him, it definitely plays a huge factor.

When you look at their other top forwards like Zacha and Coyle, they have to get going here, and Zacha specifically. I don’t think it’s been a good series for him: he had a good Game 1, but since then he’s been awfully quiet. Coyle came close to scoring in Game 4, but needs to break through.

This is the problem they have with their roster, and we knew it was going to be a problem from the jump, but it’s starting to rear its ugly head at the worst possible time.
