Baltimore Ravens Reveal Bold Comparison For 4th-Round Wide Receiver

When the Baltimore Ravens selected Devontez Walker in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, they felt they got a massive steal. Fans may not have realized how highly the franchise thought of the young wideout. However, they believe that he is going to end up being a massive part of their offense moving forward.

Walker is coming off of a big 2023 campaign with the North Carolina Tar Heels. he caught 41 passes for 699 yards and seven touchdowns. Back in 2022, he produced even bigger numbers, racking up 58 receptions for 921 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Standing in at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Walker will give star quarterback Lamar Jackson yet another weapon to work with. He’s got a big body and great athleticism to go along with it. There is no question that he has the potential to be an impact player right off the bat.

Now, there are more reasons to believe that the Ravens believe Walker could be a special talent.

Following the 2024 NFL Draft, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta did not hold back from making his thoughts on Walker clear. He even compared the fourth-round rookie to a former star wideout, Torrey Smith.

“I say would size and speed [and] big playability outside. [Can] take the top off, catch the ball and go can break a tackle. You could count on him as a glue guy. I just think Tez has a has a lot of the same qualities.”

If Walker can produce even close to the same kind of career that Smith did, he will go down as a massive steal in the 2024 draft class for the Baltimore Ravens.

Looking at the Ravens’ current wide receiving corps, they are loaded with talent even after losing Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency to the Miami Dolphins.

Currently, the Baltimore Ravens will feature Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, Nelson Agholor, Walker, Deonte Hardy, and Tylan Wallace. Add in Mark Andrews to that group and the weapons that Jackson has to utilize are loaded with talent. Most of them are relatively unproven, but the talent is there to be special.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what kind of role Devontez Walker can carve out in his rookie season. The Ravens are clearly expecting big things from him.
